Dutch Agricultural Export Award Presented to Mohammad Al-Fraih
On February 27, Joseph Velling, the Dutch Ambassador to Kuwait, presented the Dutch Agricultural Export Award to Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Fareeh of the Burgan Food and Agricultural Industries Corporation. It should be noted that the award is presented by the Dutch Minister of Agriculture to businesspeople who, through their outstanding efforts, have contributed to the export and marketing of Dutch agricultural and horticultural products. The award was established in 1986 and has been presented twice in the Gulf region to date, both times to businessmen in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The ambassador explained that Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Fareeh deserved the award for his long and distinguished relationship with Dutch companies, Over the course of 15 years, he has established business relationships with Dutch institutions that have included the import and marketing of a wide range of products, from farm birds to flower seeds. He has also leveraged Dutch technology and expertise to help advance Kuwaiti agriculture. This includes establishing the largest poultry complex, building the first and largest greenhouse, and introducing drip irrigation technology. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Fareeh has become a leading expert in the agricultural sector. He contributed to strengthening bilateral relations between the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The award was presented at a luncheon held at Ambassador Velling’s residence, attended by prominent Kuwaiti figures. Dutch Agricultural Attaché Herman Heiligeman, based in Riyadh, also attended the event. In 1986, the Burgan Food and Agricultural Industries Corporation also received the Technology Transfer Award presented by the Minister of Commerce and Agriculture of Bahrain.

The distinguished and long-standing ties that bind Mohammed Al-Fareeh to the Netherlands and Dutch companies fully justify his selection as the award winner. He has worked with Dutch companies for more than fifteen years, importing and marketing a wide range of products ranging from poultry farms and greenhouses to hatching eggs, day-old chicks, and flower seeds. He has also promoted the use of Dutch technology and expertise to help develop agriculture in Kuwait. Dutch companies, which have also introduced new irrigation methods and agricultural technologies in general, have contributed to Kuwait’s development.
As a result, Mohammed Al-Fareeh became known as a man with specialized knowledge in the agricultural sector, as well as someone who was extremely pleasant to deal with. By establishing a strong commercial relationship with the Netherlands, Al-Fareeh contributed to strengthening bilateral relations between the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Export Award was presented during a luncheon held at Ambassador Velling’s residence, attended by a number of prominent Kuwaiti figures. The presentation ceremony was attended by Dutch Agricultural Attaché Herman Helgman, who is based in Riyadh.
