Two Lectures on Seeds and Fertilization in Kuwait

Two lectures were delivered at the Kuwaiti Society of Agricultural Engineers in Keifan last week. The first lecture, on seeds, was given by agricultural researcher Nick Grot and included a comprehensive explanation of the processes of hybridization, production, and marketing of hybrid and improved seed varieties, particularly vegetable seeds suited to the region’s conditions. The lecture also covered modern methods for treating seeds and coating them with a special layer to protect them and facilitate their handling and planting. The speaker discussed a modern method of treating seeds with chemicals that increase germination rates, accelerate germination, and make it more uniform. The second lecture was titled “Fertilization,” presented by researcher Fritz Spiker. In it, he discussed modern fertilization methods, the types of good and poor-quality fertilizers, and how to distinguish between them. He also discussed fertilizer programs suitable for different crops, highlighting the importance of iron for plants and the necessity of adding it regularly, and the methods for adding it.
