New Panamera Potato Variety Approved in Kuwait
Potatoes: From Sputna to Panamera. At the corporate level, we have learned from Engineer Khaled Aref, supervisor of the Burgan farm, that trials of a new potato variety were completed this season at Burgan Agricultural Company’s experimental stations in both the Abdali Agricultural Area and the Wafra Agricultural Area. After completing the trial and compiling all the results, the new variety, named Panamera, was approved for introduction into the Kuwaiti agricultural market for the coming season. We spoke with expert engineer Mohammed Al-Fraih and learned that this variety is characterized by strong vegetative growth even when fertilized at normal rates, compared to other varieties. The tubers are large and oval-shaped, with a medium yellow color. The number of tubers per plant ranges from 7 to 9, meaning that the average yield per plant is 1.3 kilograms, depending on soil type, pre-planting preparation, and fertilization methods throughout the season. This variety also tolerates high temperatures and is suitable for long-term storage due to the thickness of its skin. It grows well in all soil types and is semi-early maturing, as it can be harvested 100 days after planting, and is resistant to many fungal, bacterial, and viral diseases.
