Practical Steps and Proposals for Greening Kuwait

Kuwait’s Higher Committee for Greening is preparing to launch greening initiatives aimed at reducing dust and beautifying areas, which will help lower temperatures and improve the environment in Kuwait. Before we begin, there are steps I recommend following to ensure the desired goals of these green initiatives are achieved, namely: First, water must be available and ready for use in the areas to be planted. Second – Select Kuwaiti engineers to manage the project, in addition to hiring consultants for ornamental horticulture in hot climates; collaboration with international scientific research centers and universities specializing in ornamental horticulture in hot climates is preferred. Third – Establishing an agricultural nursery equipped with the latest technology and meeting international standards to produce 100 million roses and 1 million trees and shrubs suitable for Kuwait’s climate annually. Fourth – Optimizing irrigation through remote control to automatically water plants, trees, and flowers according to their needs, and using satellites to monitor irrigation and the plants’ requirements for fertilizers or pesticides. Fifth – Visiting certain high-temperature cities around the world to learn from their experiences and successes, particularly within the Gulf Cooperation Council and in developed countries such as Australia and the United States. Sixth – Designing gardens and distributing suitable and diverse trees through a dedicated technical and engineering department. Seventh – Maintenance under the supervision of a technical team, with maintenance tasks distributed among several competent local agricultural companies.
