Organizing Trade Unions and Developing Kuwaiti Agriculture
Ministerial Decision No. (3) of 2025, issued by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Manpower, Sheikh Fahad Yousif Al-Sabah, on May 21, 2025, is a sound decision... We have been waiting for this to regulate the work of trade union organizations, of which there are many in Kuwait, foremost among them the Kuwaiti Farmers Union... which is currently facing an administrative and financial vacuum... following the issuance of a final court ruling dissolving its most recent board of directors... In my view, and in the view of Kuwait’s farmers, this bold ministerial decision is a successful step toward developing agriculture in Kuwait. I advise the selected committee, which is expected to manage the Kuwaiti Farmers Union and handle its urgent affairs—including the payment of salaries to the union’s dozens of employees and workers... I advise it to enlist the help of a technical team of competent agricultural engineers to develop a comprehensive plan to advance productive agriculture in Abdali, Wafra, and other agricultural areas... This will serve the public interest of the country and its people, as well as the farmers’ interests, by providing them with proper agricultural guidance and services and modern farming methods—from harvesting and marketing—as the current system for harvesting, transportation, packaging, and local marketing... is failing and resulting in losses for the nation and farmers. I have submitted several articles on agricultural development, in addition to delivering two special lectures on modern harvesting, transportation, and packaging methods as practiced in developed countries. These lectures took place this year at the General Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs as well as the Association of Agricultural Engineers, and a summary of the lecture was published in the newspapers. By the way, the GreenTech agricultural technology exhibition will be held from June 10 to 12, 2025, in Amsterdam. The focus of this exhibition is to see how new artificial intelligence is transforming agriculture through smart innovations and data-driven growth. The exhibition features state-of-the-art equipment as well as key lectures on topics such as: hands-free harvesting; new developments from roots to crops; How AI is transforming daily operations.
