Government and Professional Partnership to Develop Kuwaiti Agriculture

As part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between government and professional bodies to support the agricultural sector and achieve food security in the State of Kuwait, a meeting was held at the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs, attended by Her Excellency Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, Minister of State for Development and Sustainability; His Excellency Minister Abdulaziz Al-Marzouq, Minister of Economy and Investment; and a delegation from the Society of Agricultural Engineers led by Engineer Abbas Hussein, Dr. Abdul Amir Al-Sarraf, Counselor Mohammed Al-Fareeh, and Engineer Salah Jawad. The meeting addressed ways to strengthen joint cooperation and leverage the technical expertise of the Society of Agricultural Engineers, thereby contributing to the development of the agricultural sector and improving the country’s food security system. Discussions focused on practical solutions and feasible projects that support local production and enhance its efficiency. Among the key topics discussed were: Development of the Poultry Sector The importance of developing the production of parent stock, whether for meat or eggs, was emphasized, with the aim of improving the quality of local chick production and reducing reliance on imports. The need to introduce modern technologies in this field to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and quality was also addressed. Organization and Marketing of Egg Products: Attendees discussed the mechanism for establishing a unified center to consolidate the production of small-scale egg producers, so that it can be packaged and marketed under a unified brand such as “Kuwait Eggs,” thereby enhancing the competitiveness of local products. It was also proposed to utilize small or cracked eggs by converting them into pasteurized liquid egg, meeting the needs of confectionery factories and restaurants, thereby contributing to reducing waste and achieving added economic value. Development of Vegetable Supply Chains The idea was raised to establish one or more centers to receive vegetables from farmers in bulk, to be then sorted, packed, and packaged according to size, weight, and color in line with market requirements, thereby helping to improve supply quality and streamline marketing operations. Modernization of the Authority’s Nurseries The meeting discussed the development of the Authority’s nurseries using automated systems and modern technologies, with the aim of meeting the needs of ornamental agriculture projects in Kuwait, in addition to producing the indoor plants required by government agencies, thereby enhancing environmental sustainability and improving the urban landscape. Strengthening Oversight and Quality The need for strict oversight of agricultural products was emphasized to ensure they are free from harmful pesticides or the improper use of veterinary drugs (for poultry and livestock), thereby protecting consumer health and increasing confidence in local products. This meeting reflects a strategic direction toward developing Kuwait’s agricultural sector through collaboration between government agencies and professional expertise, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and the gradual achievement of self-sufficiency.
